Chateau Larrivet Haut Brion

Château Larrivet Haut-Brion is one of the many Haut-Brion properties that populate the vineyards of Pessac-Léognan. The more northerly vineyards in the Graves region just to the south of Bordeaux, this particular estate is quite distinct.  The property was given its current name, château Larrivet Haut-Brion, in 1949 by Jacques Guillemaud (owner since 1941).Itwas acquired by the Gervoson family in 1987. They restored the estate's unity, once again combining the château, outbuildings, 13 hectares of grounds, and 42 hectares of vines under one owner, as well as replanting 18 hectares of land that had laid fallow.

Tasting Note: A dark plum/ruby/purple color is accompanied by hints of graphite, blueberries, tobacco and herbs in this medium to full-bodied 2010. It possesses rugged tannins as well as good freshness, depth and ripeness, but appears to be slightly disjointed and in need of more identity. There is plenty going on, but at present, this wine is primary and earthy. (Robert Parker)
